Hatha Yoga

Hatha means ‘force’ and is the term used to define all yoga movement, so any physical yoga class you take will be a ‘Hatha’ Yoga class, including Ashtanga Yoga. he main difference between Ashtanga and Hatha is that there is no set sequence in Hatha Yoga. Hatha can be less demanding and will comprise of postures, breathing techniques and relaxation. Hatha yoga is more suitable for a broader range of abilities.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic, flowing practice, characterized by its use of the ‘Vinyasa’, or a ‘special link’, which connects each posture to the next in one smooth movement, in synchronization with the breath. This marriage of breath and movement is the essence of Ashtanga Vinyasa. The heat created detoxifies the body and gives a great all round cardiovascular exercise; building strength, stamina, flexibility and tone. While Ashtanga is often seen as a more dynamic, challenging form of yoga, in reality anybody with an average level of fitness can do it. The strength and flexibility will come eventually – trust me!

Dynamic Yoga

A dynamic and challenging yoga practice. We syncronise breath and movement in a progressive sequence, preparing our body for the “peak pose”. Dynamic Yoga is often set to music. A good basic understanding of “Asana” is beneficial in this class.
