Yoga & Men
Yoga is not something that is immediately associated with men. Far from it, yoga is often perceived as exclusively ‘female oriented’ – something your girlfriend or mother would do; despite the many benefits available to the male yoga practitioner. I actively encourage men to join my classes, encourage the men in your life to get involved in yoga.
Some of the country’s leading sportsmen have also included yoga into their fitness reigeme. Ryan Giggs has practiced yoga for years and has been quoted on why yoga has helped him.
Yoga is one of the reasons I think I’ve had such a good run without major injury, something I’ve never really enjoyed since the start of my career. I’ve been doing yoga for two years now and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that I’ve not had to miss many games in this period. It’s definitely helped my hamstrings and my back.
- Ryan Giggs
After many injury plagued years of fell running and trail running I discovered yoga in 2009. Regular yoga has transformed my running by greatly improving my running posture and efficiency, which has cured a number of chronic tendonitis injuries. From my own personal experience I would recommend regular yoga practice as part of all runners training programmers to improve strength, flexibility, posture, efficiency and recovery. You don’t need to be super flexible to get benefits from yoga; I certainly wasn’t flexible when I started! With regular practice I soon started discovering even more benefits and reasons to do yoga beyond enhanced running performance
