NEW TO YOGA READING
As we’ve built Yoga Reading, this belief has been moulded and elevated through our understanding that movement needs to be tailored to your body and your needs – which, guess what, change over time. What we need now in our 40’s is different from what we needed in our 20’s and we know this will continue to change. The skills we have built over the last ten years or so have equipped us with the knowledge of how to support our body’s to be strong and, most importantly, to improve our level of comfort. And this is what we want to share with the Yoga Reading community.
We want to provide the BEST quality teaching and information so that everyone can find the tools and techniques they need to support their busy lives and feel comfortable in their bodies.
We have built a team of teachers to work with us to make sure that there’s a practice on our schedule for everyone. Between us we are skilled in yoga, meditation, injury prevention and reduction, rehabilitation, strength training, anxiety management, standing on your head and being able to sit very still!
Basically many things that can help you to feel strong, find a sense of calm and manage the overwhelm of your busy week.
We know what it’s like to be juggling work, family, relationships and general external pressures (oh you know like a global pandemic?!). It’s easy for your health and self-care practices to drop by the wayside.
By joining the Yoga Reading community you are gaining access to best quality movement and mindfulness expertise and connecting with a warm community of teachers and students.
PHYSICAL STUDIO & ONLINE STUDIO

Our physical space
We have a friendly urban studio on the Caversham border with Reading. The space is clean, bright and open and was refurbished in 2020. We have lots of free parking around the studio and two changing rooms and toilets. We can currently fit XX people meeting social distancing rules.
HOW IT WORKS
Book a space on any of our classes through Mindbody. You will receive a receipt for the class you have booked via email or on your Mindbody app. If you want to cancel you will need to do this XX hours before the class starts so that someone else can take your spot.
You can drop in for just £10 or sign up for a week of unlimited classes for £18. Please do make sure you sign up before visiting the studio as we are currently operating a strict booking only policy due to Government guidelines around COVD-19. Our virtual space
Our Online Studio offers the same diversity of classes and high quality teachers. We currently run classes through ZOOM.
HOW IT WORKS
Please still book your place through Mindbody.
You will get an email (from the teacher of the class), twenty minutes before the class starts, inviting you to join the meeting. Please check your junk mail if you don’t see it. Do log in at least five minutes before the class starts and please make sure that the email in your MindBody account is your up-to-date one (you may have set it up several years ago with your long-forgotten hotmail account), as this is the one we’ll send the meeting invite to.
We find that Zoom works best and is easiest to use on a laptop (and of course the screen is bigger), but tablets are also good. Set it up in advance so that you the teacher will be able to see your mat and you’re good to go.
Online Beginners Courses
We are passionate about our beginners’ courses. We have been teaching them for over 8 years. These courses are tried and tested and we are always adding to them to ensure we offer the best information and learning.
We always teach small groups (even online) so that you can get the most from them. We have developed these online courses so that you can still get the sense of connection you would get at the studio, from your home. We currently offer 2 beginners courses a Level 1 for yoga foundations and a level 2 for those wanting to build on these foundations.
What we always teach in our beginners’ courses:
Breath work – calming the mind and nervous system
Postures – flexibility, mobility. We use the Ashtanga Yoga system as a structure.
Strength – how to build a sustainable practice
Moving meditation – on breath and postures to help us feel fully absorbed and forget about our worries.
- Weekly live zoom classes with your teacher and fellow students
- Weekly emails which include the recorded Zoom class should you want to repeat
- Weekly instructional videos made especially for this course to break down any techniques we learnt in class or to help you practice along with.
- Email support during the entire course
- £50 discount on your first month of YR membership (that’s £20 for access to over 60 live classes per month).

Maximum 10 students
In level 1 we will learn the importance of a sustainable yoga practice. We will learn simple breathing and meditation techniques. Mobility practices that will transform your body connection and support your yoga practice. We will learn Sun Salutation A and B and the first 4 standing poses. By the end of level 1 you should feel confident to attend any of our open level classes but you may wish to continue your journey to level 2.
Standing poses and transitions
Tuesday 26th May
Maxiumum 10 students
In level 1 we learnt:
- basic breathing techniques
- some foundational mobility skills,
- sun salutations
- the first 4 postures of the Standing Sequence.
In Level 2 we will continue to learn the entire standing sequence and how to transition from pose to pose. We will learn the importance of syncing breath and movement together. By the end of level 2 you should feel confident to practice the standing poses either in a class or by yourself. And feel happy to join any of our online classes.
