Knowledge of why we sleep, what it is and how we regulate our sleep can help in learning how to achieve better sleep.
Physical activity is one method for improving sleep. This workshop will focus on the what, why and how of sleep, along with information about how physical activity can aid sleep.
There will be time for questions and answers and the workshop will close with a short, sleep-encouraging practice, led by Katia, that you can take away with you.
Dr Sarah Gilchrist FBASES, spent over 20 years working in the high performance sport industry, latterly as a Technical Lead for the UK Sports Institute (formerly the English Institute of Sport) and Senior Physiologist with British Rowing.
Her doctorate specialised in sleep and athletic performance, and she now provides consultancy on a range of performance areas, particularly relating to female sleep health, through her own consultancy, Gilchrist Performance. She is on the Advisory Board for the Sleep Charity, a fellow of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences and is High Performance Sport Accredited.
Sarah’s interest in sleep health stemmed from supporting elite athletes in the run up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics and observing the increasing demands that a Home Games brought on an athletes’ recovery time. She also has a young family and has experienced the challenges of juggling the juggle with family life, working and protecting some time for self-recovery, so knows all too well the importance of a good night’s sleep.
