WORKSHOP
EXPLORE YOUR CORE! WITH EXERCISE THERAPIST JOANNA FEAST
Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm
Investment: £48
Location: Yoga Reading
This workshop will explore the various myths about the core and will focus on how to activate the trunk muscles in collaboration with other parts of the body and with the breath. It’s a good reminder that the ‘core’ comprises layers of deep muscles that help support your pelvis, spine, bottom, back, hips and stomach: they are the foundational muscles for maintaining appropriate posture and allowing us to twist, bend, run, jump and move in general.
We’ll look at what we mean by ‘zipping up’, ‘engaging the core’, ‘spine to the floor’, and the interplay between mobility and stability – while remaining flexible and free to move. And of course we will examine the role of core muscles on balance.
There are so many benefits to having a stronger, more mobile body and the core muscles are an integral part of that strength and mobility. Come along to find out how a stronger trunk contributes to other areas of the body, to the mind, and to everyday activities.
It will be a practical session, so come dressed for movement in whatever you find comfortable.
This course is facilitated by Joanna Feast, an exercise therapist, with a background in Pilates and the Alexander Technique.
