This workshop is run by the ashtanga yoga teaching team at Yoga Reading, and this will be our 4th Intensive. Each workshop has a theme and this year we will be focusing on one of the biggest challenges in ashtanga yoga – Obstacles.
Whilst Ashtanga is transformative, it is also a challenging practice, and you are likely to encounter obstacles along the way. Whether it’s practicing regularly, repeatedly getting up early, questioning the ashtanga practise, a tricky pose, fear of going upside down or balancing it with other areas of your life, something will stop you in your tracks and bring up questions for you.
The workshop starts on Sunday with an extended practice that focuses on teaching the vinyasa system through a led, full vinyasa class of the Primary Series.
The day starts with a pranayama session and includes a theory workshop and light brunch. Through this intensive we will look at common obstacles, both physical and in our minds. We examine how they can mirror larger experiences in our day-to-day life and how using things like community support and sharing can help us overcome them and learn a huge amount about ourselves.
The Ashtanga Intensive is open and accessible to everybody:
- Established practitioners wanting to go deeper in their practise
- Practitioners wanting to experience a 4-day consecutive practise
- Returning practitioners who have had a break and would like to return to Ashtanga practise
- Complete beginners interested in starting the Mysore-style self-practise
This year we are offering established practitioners wishing to dive deeper into the practice an additional opportunity to complete a CPD certified development training into ashtanga yoga. For more information see our Courses Page.
